Adios Smog City
Finally, after we filled our tank and increased the food supplies in the exquisitely stocked supermarket, we leave the smog of Islamabad, which has made us all sick.
On the road we still have to weld the compressor bracket before it goes up to the hilly Murree. We are in no hurry and we find soon a place to sleep close to the highway on a forest track and wait for Mark and Rachel.
The view among all the pine trees down to the lowlands is unique. With that view the tiring diarrhea is then not so bad, no other toilet can provide such a incredible view. ;)
Permit?!?
"NOC? What's that?" I ask the chap at the checkpoint to Kashmir. "Without NOC, you can not enter Kashmir". "Yes, but what the hell is a NOC? Is it a Pakistani shokobar like MARS?"
Of course not, it is nothing to eat or drink it is another permit we never heard of.
"AAARGH" F*** this permit has cost us just 250 km.
Arrest us!
Not at the checkpoint, but at our sleeping place, high up with panoramic view, next to a hotel, we introduce the most heated debate so far with the Pakistani police. As so often, the police has just shit their pants. We are in the recreational area of Murree and therefor in an absolutely, undeniable safe area. But the old police-Papa does not want to take any responsibility for us and wants us to skip our dinner and follow him. We should instead sleep in the paradise surroundings of his police station = high walls and no view! This man must be crazy in the coconut!
The discussion goes so far that Mark reaches his hands to the police to arrest him immediately. For we have broken no law, we just set up for the night, cooked the food, and generally have had enough trouble with the police today. Basta, finish, off and over!
Now the Police-Papa is even more scared and disappeared into thin air after we have signed copies of our passport to a general waiver of liability for the police. Well then, good night!
