Sufi Night

"What, all in a tuk tuk", "Sure?", "Okay," I have to move more. As in a sardine can we sit with six people in the gas-powered tuk tuk. It is already dark and the streets are going mad.

Pakistan has just won the Asian championship in cricket. An absolute sensation for the cricket fanatic Pakistanis. It is celebrated wildly, huge flags are waved, and we hear of course, everywhere "joy-shots" of automatic weapons. Where does all the bullets come down again??

No time to think of it, for a small car has just crashed in our tuk-tuk. A brief discussion between the two drivers, two arguments, no solution ... Everyday life in the Asian traffic.

After a long drive we reach our destination. A kind community center somewhere in the greater Lahore. It's Thursday night and that means it is Sufi night. Every Thursday, the followers of the mystical version of Islam meeting in order to drum, dance and smoke themselves into trance.

The deaf-mute, now world famous, brothers give a unique rhythm concert with there big drums which they have hanging around there necks. Ultra-synchronous, despite deafness, the two brothers drumming through the night, without a single break in the two-hour concert. Some of the followers dance in a trance, turn there body at a breathtaking pace around its own axis, for several minutes and come up with the drums abruptly stops. A show which I will not soon forget. WOW!
